Where is it?
Lake Charlevoix is the third largest inland lake in Michigan and discharges into Lake Michigan. It’s known for its crystal clear waters. The maximum depth in the main basin is 122 feet.
When will it happen?
Due to high winds, the swim has been rescheduled to Tuesday, August 25th.
Will you be alone?
Yes, I will be swimming alone. But I will be accompanied by two kayaks for safety and to provide nutrition.
Can I track the swim?
Yes, I will provide live tracking on this site so that you can follow along.
Has anyone done this before?
Yes! George Bradbury was the first person to officially swim across Lake Charlevoix in 2018.
Can you take breaks?
Sure! I’ll stop periodically to eat and drink but will not have any physical contact with other humans (fish encounters are allowed).
How long is the swim?
The swim will be approximately 13 miles and will take around 9 hours.
Why Lake Charlevoix?
Lake Charlevoix is renowned for its calm, clear waters and breathtaking scenery, making it perfect for this swim. Originally, I was planning on Lake Erie but there are lots of regulations involved with swimming across any of the Great Lakes. While necessary, this is also very expensive and would wind up deducting from money that could go to charity instead.
What’s the route?
The swim will start at Depot Beach in Charlevoix and end at Peninsula Beach in Boyne City.
